Meet Dr. Mark Machen
Dr. Mark Machen grew up in Forrest City, Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in biology. Following undergraduate, Dr. Machen attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee and graduated with a Doctorate in Optometry. In July of 2017, he joined Classic Vision Care as a doctor.
Dr. Machen completed his retinal, corneal, cataract, and glaucoma eye disease externship training at the Memphis VA in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. His primary care and contact lens externship training were conducted at Family Vision Care in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He completed his training at The Eye Center in Memphis, Tennessee where he became skilled in the treatment and management of ocular diseases, refractive surgery co-management, dry eye disease, and pediatrics.
While in optometry school, Dr. Machen was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society and served as the president of Omega Delta social organization. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the Georgia Optometric Association. Upon graduation, Dr. Machen was awarded the “Southwest Contact Lens Society Award” which was given to the clinician who excelled in fitting and managing a variety of contact lens patients.
Dr. Machen provides eye care for all age groups. His special areas of interest include primary care optometry, contact lens fittings, and managing ocular diseases such as dry eye, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease. When he is not in the clinic, Dr. Machen enjoys the outdoors, playing golf, watching collegiate and professional sports, and playing his bass guitar.
