Glasses Q & A
What are the benefits of glasses?
Getting glasses to perfect your vision offers numerous benefits. Glasses are an alternative to contacts during times your eyes are dry or sore, if you’re not a good candidate for contact lenses, or simply prefer glasses over contacts. You may only require glasses in certain instances, such as when you’re reading.
What happens during an eye exam?
During an eye exam at Classic Vision Care, your optometrist reviews your medical history and symptoms and asks questions about your eyesight. They also complete an eye exam and vision tests that may include:
Visual acuity tests
Your optometrist uses visual acuity tests to evaluate how clear your sight is in each eye. They often use reading charts containing letters at near and far distances.
Additional eye tests
Your eye care provider examines how well your eyes function overall. They evaluate:
- Color vision
- Depth perception
- Peripheral vision
- Eye muscle movements
- Eye teaming
- Eye focusing
- Your pupil’s response to light
Your optometrist also uses eye tests that measure the curvature of your cornea. A light is focused on your cornea to measure the reflection.
Refraction tests help your optometrist determine the lens power needed to correct nearsightedness, astigmatism, or farsightedness. They use special lenses and equipment to determine your vision prescription.
Eye health examination
Your optometrist assesses your eye health to detect or rule out specific eye diseases, such as cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. They may use eye drops to dilate your pupils during the exam and refer you to a specialist when necessary.
Which glasses frames are available?
Glasses available at Classic Vision Care include traditional frames and designer hand-made frames.
Examples include Ovvo® frames that can hold up to 45-pounds of weight and Foss frames that are boutique-style and handmade in Italy. Regardless of your style, Classic Vision Care offers frames to accommodate you.
Are glasses right for me?
Just about anybody with vision problems can benefit from glasses, especially if you only require vision correction when you read. Even if you wear contacts, you might want glasses on hand to give your eyes a rest during certain times of the day.
